1. Use magic towers by the entrances to strip enemies of armor, artillery, magic, and defender near exit.

2. Use a pair of summons repeatedly summoned to block off exit. The enemy shouldn't reach them.

3. Don't have any defenders other than those near the exit. Dead corpses are respawned as enemies.

4. Don't have any elementals.

5. Make good use of magic towers with death rays.

What kills you?

ok, well here's what I did

first try: stalled the swamp things with heaps of rock elementals, waited for my rain of fire. I frankly don't know how I survived, it turns out dead elementals spawn swamp things

second try: have little mage towers all over the map ( except maybe the right edge of screen) and keep upgrading them, prioritising the ones that cover the most path etc, one barracks in the spot nearest to the exit, eventually make that a maxed out holy order, but in the meantime focus on the mage towers and use reinforcements to block. had very, very few swamp pool spawns on this one so long as you don't let your infantry die ( hence holy order=durable)

Ah yeah, missed that.

Ok.

Tips then.

Summary. Build magic towers everywhere but bottom left corner, there build paladins. Don't let reinforcements die, keep them away from enemy. Paladins counter fire dogs. You should be firing meteors near the exit at these times. Upgrade magic towers near the bottom after the first demon wave. Upgrade magic towers near the top when the second elemental comes. Build an elemental near the demon gate to take on the big demon.

Fireball times.

0. (optional.) when four or five creeps are out, at the top.

1. When the last demon has exited the portal in the first wave.

2. When the second tree reaches the intersection, or a bit earlier, there's some leeway here.

3. When a second wave of trees and demons comes and there's lots near the exit. Near the end of this wave.

4. When the second wave of fire dogs comes.

5. On the right elemental as soon as you see it.

6. Whenever you need it.

All but one tower should be magic to avoid feeding the slime pool corpses which will turn into green corpses for the enemy. First build magic towers, level 1towers have the lowest cost per damage ratio and so are the best. Build them around the right side to kill demons and creepers from the right as such

Image

Upgrade them from the exit outwards, don't upgrade the top path, the second upgrade to level 3 has a lower cost damage ratio than level 2 so focus on getting them to level 3. Late during the rotten tree assault build a barrack and prioritize it for upgrades to a paladin with healing (one early on, add a second level of healing later in the fire dog wave and a third in the gloomy elemental wave).

Image

As you beat the first elemental upgrade near the second elemental to do some damage to it. At this point I died because my paladins got slain. On my second try I upgraded faster and my paladins survived. There's a little luck to this but not much.

After this upgrade a tower on the right side to the yellow wizard thing and make an element. This will stop the big demon from shielding up his buddies.

Image

Upgrade this tower as necessary to heal the elemental, don't let the elemental die at any costs or a swamp one will appear.

From here on, build arcane death towers to take out elementals near the exit. I lost my elemental at one point but then the enemy got death'd so it didn't matter.

Magic wise. Initially use the reinforcements to take out the flying units. Put your first reinforcement at the level of the second tower from the top on the right near the hell entrance, second one a bit further. Then put a reinforcement a little ahead of fliers and creepers. Use a meteor when there are five creepers at the top (as soon as you see the fifth one) somewhere in the middle. This removes all randomness from this stage.

Image

From then on, put your reinforcements in front of the furthest tower on the left, retreat them to the left if necessary. Use meteors right after the last demon exits the tower around the intersection near the exit. This is the luck part of the level, sometimes they'll overwhelm you here if the extra ones hit badly. Not often.

With the tree assault, handle the first tree and demon as normal, then meteor the second tree. You have a fair bit of leeway here, if you upgrade towers well and don't do anything stupid with your reinforcements you should easily pass this bit. At the end of the tree assault you'll probably need to use a fireball to take out lots of trees and demons, don't waste a fireball early though unless you have to. Level 3 warriors can delay trees and demons pretty well.

The firedogs are fast and deadly. The second assault killed my paladins, so you'll probably need a fireball there. In general from now on use reinforcements behind your paladins. Once the elemental at the bottom comes shoot a fireball just in front of it as soon as you're close enough to the path to overlap it a little and damage the dogs. Keep your paladins alive as long as possible by moving them, keep reinforcing. It depends a bit on luck, but you should get the second fireball in time enough to kill the second elemental or kill the dogs nearby.

And from here on, you should win with little difficulty.

Image

If you have premium, it should be easier. Lightning can take out a dog to relieve pressure on you, the extra soldiers really come in handy, and the extra gold will allow you to be just that little bit ahead. You don't need it though, as I show here.

After trying many many ineffective strategies over several days and unknown hours of gameplay, I wanted to thank Nepene for the definitive guide in how to beat this extremely hard level. Using his strategy, I was able to defeat Rotten Forest Iron Challenge Normal mode on the first try.

Timing is everything on this so be sure to watch that Elemental at the Sorcerers Mage Tower so he doesn't die or an additional Swamp Creature will be difficult to combat.

Here is the final screenshot of what I ended up with just before completing the level. Thanks again Nepene!

Sigh, premium content ;)
Looks nice though, I am pretty sure you will be able to
beat it without premium content using this strategy C:

You are correct sir. Was so used to using Premium didn't even think to turn it off. NEW CHALLENGE!

Will post final screenshot when I get it completed without using Premium.

(several days later) Okay, this is a REALLY hard challenge. I would love to see a video of it.

(several more days later) As promised, here is the last screenshot just before victory. No Premium used- buried the last monster wave with meteorites and moved the Golem over to attack the final tree assault. Also pumped up the arcane towers closest to exit one with max Death Ray and one with Teleport. Also maxed Paladins with all available upgrades.
