Hello, Generals!

It’s Genesis Devlog Friday, and today we’re talking about a new face you probably noticed in the initial screenshots fighting alongside Gerald. We’re talking about none other than the battle sorceress Zefira, the second hero you'll unlock in the game.

While we love bringing back old favorites and updating them (and Genesis is the perfect place to revisit the past), we also think new characters are key to keeping the world of Kingdom Rush growing with fresh stories. That’s why you'll see both legendary heroes and brand-new faces joining the fight.

So, who is Zefira? She was one of the Academy's top mages, a respected teacher of the arcane arts. But unlike her peers who prefer staying safe in high towers, her mastery focuses on fighting at a much closer range. While she loved her students, she officially joined Gerald’s campaign after his troops helped fend off a series of bandit raids. After all, her title is Battlemage, not... Desktopmage?

When designing Zefira, we wanted her stance to reflect her unique fighting style. Unlike your average wizard, she summons energy weapons of all kinds, including swords, spears, and of course, her massive hammer. Fun fact, our lead designer was certainly deep into an Elden Ring magic run at the time!

Another cool detail is that she wears the classic blue of the Arcane Academy to reflect her roots, and even her name is a nod to her origins. It comes from the word Zephyr, meaning a gentle west wind, a reference to the Academy’s location on the western side of the map.

We’re sure you’re all asking what the Linirean Arcane Academy is all about and what role it will play in the story ahead. In next week’s Devlog, we’ll be taking a closer look at the magic school itself, its history, and some of its most famous (and infamous) students.

weekly q&a

Q by Alex: Will we still have the possibility to switch towers between missions and build each mission tower army as we want it?

A: Yes! In Kingdom Rush Genesis, you’ll equip 5 towers for each battle. Between the tower loadout and the upgrade tree, where you choose the specific skills that suit your strategy, you'll have more customization over your army than ever before.

Q by Chris_M: Is there a chance to see young Blackburn as a Hero? He wasn't added in Alliance as a Hero because he couldn't be as strong as he needed, but his younger self could probably be easier to implement.

A: We’ll just say Blackburn will play a part in this adventure. How exactly, you’ll find out soon!
